Meet Marcy and Mel, the new owners of Mt. Hood Roasters and longtime lovers of Rhododendron, Oregon.
Marcy, Mel, and Mt. Hood Roasters
Marcy and Mel's friendship spans almost 4 decades and across many states! They always knew they wanted to collaborate on 'something'...but life and timing were always throwing curve balls. However, that all changed when they both decided to buy homes in Rhododendron, OR and became long time customers (and big fans) of Mt Hood Roasters!
Mt. Hood Roasters was founded in 2002 by Rick & JiYeon Applegate. Rick and JiYeon spent over 20 years nurturing Mt. Hood Roasters into a coffee connoseur's oasis, unassumingly tucked away in the shadow of Mt Hood. When Rick and JiYeon were ready to retire, a chance conversation brought Marcy and Mel's future collaboration to light! "We should buy it," said Marcy, to which Mel replied, "That's what I was thinking, too!" And so began their journey and collaboration as the stewards of Mt Hood Roasters' legacy!
With the company and support of their families and beloved dogs, Squish (pictured left) and Jacques, they've taken the reins of Mt. Hood Roasters, bringing a fresh look to the shop, but (being adamant about) keeping the coffee the same! Marcy and Mel are excited to continue offering the same premium, air roasted, mountain fresh coffee that put a tiny little coffee shop, in the shadow of Mt Hood, on the map!

Air-Roasting makes the difference
Unlike traditional roasting methods that rely on direct contact with heat, air-roasting uses a stream of hot air to roast the beans, leading to a more consistent roast by ensuring the beans are constantly in motion.
We make sure to roast in small batches so that we can bring out the full range of flavors our beans have to offer. With air-roasting, we preserve the natural oils in the beans, resulting in a cleaner, brighter taste in every cup.
